Lane Clyde Frost October 12, 1963- July 30, 1989
Lane, his sister Robin and brother Cody, along with their parents Clyde and Elsie Frost, lived in Randlett and Vernal, Utah until Lane was fourteen years old. At that time they moved to Lane, Oklahoma. Lane had been interested in bull riding from a very young age and had competed in buckouts and the Little Buckaroo Rodeos while in Utah. After moving to Oklahoma, he joined several youth rodeo associations including the Oklahoma Youth Rodeo Association in 1980, 1981, and 1982. He competed in the National High School Finals Rodeo his last three years in high school and won the Bull Riding Championship in that association in 1981. He graduated from high school in 1982 and joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association in 1983. He qualified for the PRCA National Finals Rodeo in 1984 through 1988 and was the PRCA World Champion Bull Rider in 1987. In 1988, he was matched with the 1987 Bucking Bull of the Year, Red Rock, who had never been ridden. In that "Challenge of Champions" Lane rode Red Rock four out of seven times. Also in 1988, Lane competed with the United States Rodeo Team at the exhibition rodeo held at the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The United States team beat the Canadian team to win the gold medal. Lane as an individual won the bronze. In July 1989 at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, Lane rode his first bull and placed second on his next one. In the short go-round on Sunday the 30th, he rode Bad Company's bull, "Taking Care of Business", marked an 85, and won third in the average, but when Lane got off, the bull turned and hit him in the side, breaking some ribs which severed a main artery. Lane went to meet our Lord and Savior for his greatest award ever. |
